Hello my name is Chef Shawn and I love all things culinary. I started learning how to cook at an early age, in fact I remember when I was ten years old and tried to make some Mac and Cheese and let not mention how badly I burned it but I noticed that it was something that even though messed it up I wanted to learn how to cook the dishes and more importantly what caused the failure. So, I had a new career path I was going to go culinary arts school and was going to become a great chef and like most kid the next week I was on to the next big idea but cooking did stay with me but more as a hobby. I would read cookbooks and cooking magazines when I came across then, I would check out all the different kitchen appliances and kitchen gadgets in the different catalogs and tell my mom how the different items where a dire need in the house but I never really thought about turning my passion into a career.

Like many other people in the world I got out of high school and had no idea of what I wanted to do for a career but bills had to be paid so I got a job in the restaurant industry as waiter and started working. For the next few years I floated along working in different restaurant as either a server or bartender but at the same time I kept reading the cookbook and magazines expanding my cooking knowledge and finer point of how to cook.

Then it happened I had a bar guest that would come into the restaurant I was bartending at who was a chef at another restaurant and we always talked about food, cooking and recipes and at some point asked me why I was sitting behind and not doing what I really had a passion for. He made a great point how many people get to do something that they are passionate about. So I decided that it was time to formally learn how to cook and expand my passion for all things culinary into a career. I was off to Culinary Arts School.

I had decided to go to Johnson & Wales University after it was recommend to me by a couple of chefs that I knew and really had the chance to formally learn how to cook and was able to graduate at the top of my class. Since then I have continued to work in the industry in all different aspects and devote much of my time to all things culinary.

Which brings me to why I created askchefshawn.com, over the years I have noticed that I have become the go to guy for many of my friend when they have a how to cook question and not only the cooking ones they want to know what the best kitchen appliances, does these kitchen gadgets really work, what the best chef knives and many others. The cool thing is I love answering all the questions. So I decided to but a site together that gives people the chance to ask me their questions.
